ROH Take No Prisoners 2008 Review

A Star is Born

ROH Take No Prisoners 2008
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 3/16/08

PPV

1.) Four Corner Survival - Claudio Castagnoli vs. Delirious vs. Tyler Black vs. Go Shiozaki: ***1/4

The winner of this match would go on to fight Nigel McGuinness for the ROH World Title in the PPV Main Event. It was a fine opener. Four Corner Survival always prove to be entertaining and this one's no different.

I should note that the Age of the Fall "hacks" into the ROH PPV feed several times during the nights to broadcast messages. This one was the first.

2.) Kevin Steen vs. Roderick Strong: **3/4

Strong's FIP World Heavyweight Title is not on the line in this one. It was a decent affair. Nothing really spectacular.

The Age of the Fall hacks the PPV feed again, this time Jacobs is there with a crowd of followers. Zack Gowen & Allison Wonderland give their reasons for joining the Age of the Fall. Jacobs then tells the camera guy to cut back to the ring, as the next match has already gotten going...

3.) Philadelphia Street Fight - The Age of the Fall (Necro Butcher & Joey Matthews with Lacey) vs. The Briscoes with Daizee Haze: ***1/2

Very fun match. I always love these wild multi-man No DQ Brawls that ROH does. The Philly Crowd certainly adds to the vibe. Daizee Haze & Lacey were also fighting during this match. Mark Briscoe does another crazy dive of the scaffolding for the entrance way. They don't call him "Crazy" Mark Briscoe for nothing.

Larry Sweeney comes out next, mentioning again his "Hostile Takeover" of ROH, and introduces his new clients, The Hangman 3. This leads to Erick Stevens coming out, demanding to fight Daniel Puder. Sweeney says he's holding Puder off PPV, but does promise Stevens a fight....against Brent Albright.

4.) Erick Stevens vs. Brent Albright: **1/4

Eh....this was ok. Nothing really to this one.

5.) ROH World Tag Team Titles - The No Remorse Corps. (Davey Richards & Rocky Romero) vs. The Vulture Squad (Jigsaw & Ruckus): ***1/4

This match was Taped from Supercard of Honor III in Orlando, Florida. I'd say it was about as good as the match they had a the Sixth Anniversary Show. So yeah...not much else to say.

We cut to a clip of BJ Whitmer questioning The Hangman 3 being bought by Sweet 'n' Sour Inc. Whitmer gets beaten by Pearce & Hagadorn and sent packing.

6.) Bryan Danielson vs. Austin Aries: ****1/4

These two have had a series of great encounters over the past year, and this one is no exception. No much to say except that it was a stellar match. I would say this was the match of the night, but the next match changed that...

7.) ROH World Title - Nigel McGuinness vs. Tyler Black: ****1/2

Tyler Black's match with Bryan Danielson earlier in the year was his Breakout match, but his World Title match here with Nigel definitely solidified Tyler Black as a future star in wrestling. Just a fantastic match between these two, and the crowd definitely added to that. One of the best ROH matches of 2008 in my opinion.

Bonus

1.) Davey Richards vs. Dingo: *3/4

Nothing really much to this one, just a squash for Davey Richards.

2.) The Vulture Squad (Ruckus & Jigsaw) vs. The Hangmen 3 (Adam Pearce & BJ Whitmer): **1/4

So this match (I guess) took place before they beat Whitmer out of the group. This match was just ok. During the match, Eddie Kingston & BLK OUT came out & started yelling at Ruckus. This lead to a brawl between BLK OUT & The Vulture Squad with Ruckus trying to play peacemaker.

3.) The Briscoes vs. Naomichi Marufugi & Takashi Sugiura: ***3/4

This was a match (I believe) taken from The Briscoes Tour of Japan in early 2008. This was a pretty good match. Briscoes & Marufuji are always good & Sugiura wasn't bad either.

Overall: 8.75/10

One again we get another great ROH PPV. There was only one match that was just ok, with the rest of the undercard being solid and the two main events stealing the show. The only bonus match to really see is The Briscoes one. Overall this was a good show to sit through.
