Dragon Gate USA Open The Golden Gate Review

Dragon Gate USA makes its California Debut with a big night of action!

Dragon Gate USA Open The Golden Gate
Los Angeles, California 1/27/12

The card had to be rearranged from the original lineup. Johnny Gargano, The Open The Freedom Gate Champion, cannot be there due to an injury suffered at Evolve 10, and Rich Swann apparently missed his flight.

1.) Low Ki vs. BxB Hulk: ***

Low Ki is making his Dragon Gate USA debut after making his Evolve Debut earlier in the month. This was a fine opening match. Expected a little better, but still good.

Chuck Taylor comes out and says because Rich Swann missed his flight, the tag match with The Young Bucks is off, and suggests wrestling one of them in a singles match. The Bucks come out, and attack Taylor. Scorpio Sky makes the save and it looks like we got a tag team match after all!

2.) The Young Bucks vs. Chuck Taylor & Scorpio Sky: ***1/2

Scorpio Sky definitely proved to be a worthy replacement. This was a very good tag team match. Lots of fun.

3.) Naruki Doi vs. Masato Yoshino: ***3/4

Doi & Yoshino were formerly a Tag Team known as Speed Muscle. This was a very good match. It's clear that Doi & Yoshino came ready to work, as shown by the great match they put on.

AR Fox wants some revenge against Callihan for what he did to Sabu at Evolve 10, and says he wants their match to be a Tables Match. He gets his wish...

4.) Tables Match – AR Fox vs. Sami Callihan: ***1/2

This was a very entertaining hardcore-style match. Both guys looked good and did some very brutal spots in this one.

5.) Jon Davis vs. Caleb Konley: **1/4

Was the outcome of this one EVER in doubt?....No. Davis wins in a surprisingly decent little squash match. Watching Davis destroy people is fun.

6.) PAC vs. Akira Tozawa: ****1/4

This was an AWESOME match. Pac & Tozawa blew me away here with some incredible in-ring work. Great stuff. Check this out.

7.) Open The United Gate Titles – CIMA & Ricochet vs. Masaaki Mochizuki & Jimmy Susumu: ****1/4

CIMA was recently kicked out of Blood Warriors by Tozawa & BxB Hulk at a recent Dragon Gate show in Japan, so he's back to being a face. Ricochet is still acting heelish, with CIMA discourages. Another AWESOME match. Both teams went all out and there were a lot of great moments. Very fun to watch.

After the match, BxB Hulk & Akira Tozawa attack everyone but Ricochet, but Low Ki comes out and makes the save. He then cuts a promo basically saying he's looking forward to facing every guy in the ring. CIMA then wishes everyone a Happy New Years as he & Ricochet posed with the Open The United Gate Titles.

Overall: 8.5/10

A great start to the year for Dragon Gate USA. The two main event matches were great and must see. The rest of the card is a lot of fun to watch as well, making for a excellent show.
