ROH Best in the World 2011 Review

The moment of truth has finally arrived for Davey Richards!

ROH Best In The World 2011

New York, New York 6/26/11

DVD Bonus

1.) Generation Me vs. Adam Cole & Kyle O’Reilly: **3/4

So since Generation Me (aka The Young Bucks) are still with TNA at this point, they can't appear on ROH iPPV. They were having a pretty good match until The Bravados ran in for the DQ. It was a good match, of course, up to the DQ. A lot of the fans sounded pissed at the ending.

PPV

1.) Colt Cabana vs. Tommaso Ciampa: **

A decent match. Cabana got his usual cheers and Ciampa looked pretty good.

2.) Jay Lethal vs. “The Prodigy” Mike Bennett: ***

Jay Lethal is making his return to ROH, this being his first appearance since 2006. He had a fairly decent match against The Prodigy in this one. Lethal got some Randy Savage chants.

3.) No Holds Barred Street Fight – Homicide vs. Rhino: ***

So Prince Nana has hired Rhino to take out the Notorious 187, who has become a thorn in The Embassy's side. This was a pretty good brawl. Homicide wins the match, but Rhino gets the last laugh when he GORES Homicide through a Table!!

4.) Special Challenge Match – Steve Corino (with Jimmy Jacobs) vs. Michael Elgin (with Truth Martini): **1/2

So Corino & Jacobs invited Kevin Steen back, claiming he's changed. Steen comes through the crowd but is stopped by Jim Cornette and Cary Silkin, and is then subsequently taken away by security.

The match itself was pretty decent. Elgin showed off his power pretty well against Corino.

Post match, Elgin & Martini go after Corino & Jacobs, but Steen comes back and is able to fend off The House of Truth. Security comes out and goes to take Steen away again, but Corino begs Cornette to at least let speak. “My name is Kevin Steen and F**K RING OF HONOR!” Steen lays out Jacobs & gives Corino the Package Piledriver. Steen is dragged out by security, with fans cheering and his middle fingers raised high.

5.) ROH World TV Title – Christopher Daniels vs. El Generico: ***3/4

So El Generico got a win over Daniels at Revolution Canada and thus got a title shot. Daniels also has recently been re-signed by TNA, so a title change is expected. The match was very good. Well deserved for Generico and Daniels goes out with a bang.

6.) ROH World Tag Team Titles – Four Way Elimination Match – Wrestling’s Greatest Tag Team vs. Jay & Mark Briscoe vs. The Kings of Wrestling vs. The All Night Express: ****1/4

I think ROH doesn't do these four way tag team matches often enough (at least anymore). This was a great match. The ending was a bit flat but the match was still good.

After the match, the Briscoes attack WGTT with chairs, leading to ANX coming out with pipes & a kendo stick to make the save.

7.) ROH World Title – Eddie Edwards vs. Davey Richards: ****3/4

So this is it, the match that everyone has been waiting for. It was AWESOME. Very good stuff here with the story of this being the final shot for Richards to win the belt. Amazing stuff that must be seen. If it wasn't for Punk/Cena just under a month later this would have been pro-wrestling match of the year.

Afterwords, Davey & Eddie hug and Richards cuts an emotional promo.

Overall: 8.75/10

The undercard is a bit underwhelming, but the Steen segment was fantastic, and all three title matches delivered in spades. Davey/Eddie was ROH match of the year and contender for MOTY in all of pro-wrestling.
