ROH Gateway To Honor Review

Honor returns to the St. Louis area!

ROH Gateway To Honor
Collinsville, Illinois 11/6/11

1.) Tommaso Ciampa (with The Embassy) vs. Andy “Right Leg” Ridge: **1/4

The Embassy is out in full force tonight. This was an ok match. More of a showcase for Ciampa. Delirious (who was going to be Ciampa's opponent but was pulled due to a conflict of interest) comes out and chases away The Embassy members after they tried to interfere. Ciampa still picks up the win.

2.) Special Challenge Match – Jay Briscoe vs. TJ Perkins: ***

TJP was just recently signed to an ROH contract. A very solid contest. Perkins looked pretty good against the ROH veteran.

3.) The Bravado Brothers vs. Jimmy Jacobs & Steve Corino: **3/4

This is the first time Jacobs & Corino have teamed together in a Tag Team Match. A pretty solid affair. Jacobs & Corino do a little comedy stuff with The Bravados before things got more serious.

4.) Michael Elgin (with Truth Martini) vs. Grizzly Redwood: **1/4

Why Elgin is still wrestling lower card wrestlers at this point is beyond me. The match was pretty decent. Redwood got some offense in, but of course Elgin picked up the win.

5.) Women of Honor – Mia Yim (with The Embassy) vs. MsChif: **

A decent showcase. Heard Mia Yim has been to Japan so I'm sure she's improved since this match...

6.) ROH World Tag Team Titles – Wrestling’s Greatest Tag Team (Shelton Benjamin & Charlie Haas) vs. Future Shock (Adam Cole & Kyle O’Reilly): ***

Future Shock won this opportunity back at Tag Team Turmoil in Richmond. This is also a rematch from Revolution USA in Dearborn. I gotta say this was good but definitely a step below their first match. I don't quite understand why Benjamin's ribs still hurt....just over 4 months after the fact. WGTT was also a little sloppy.

7.) Proving Ground Match – World TV Champion Jay Lethal vs. Mark Briscoe: ***

If Mark is able to beat Lethal or last the time limit, he earns a future TV Title Shot. A solid contest. About as good as the Jay Briscoe/TJP match. Lethal picks up the win.

8.) First Time Ever Singles Match – “The Prodigy” Mike Bennett vs. El Generico: ***

Another match that wasn't overly good, but solid nonetheless. Part of the problem was, unfortunately, Bennett.

9.) First Time Ever Dream Tag Team Match – The American Wolves (ROH World Champion Davey Richards & Eddie Edwards) vs. The All Night Express (Kenny King & Rhett Titus): ****1/4

This is the first time these two have ever faced each other (hard to believe). Very good match. Both looked pretty good and the right team (ANX) go the win. We also saw a bit more miscommunication between The Wolves, and Richards got sent through a table. This would be the last time the Wolves would team together in ROH until Final Battle 2012.

After the match, Davey gives his usual speech and puts over ANX.

Overall: 7.5/10

I think this show suffered a little bit due to it being the day after a TV Taping and a few weeks before the big Survival of the Fittest & Glory By Honor shows. There was a lot of decent matches on here, nothing was bad, but nothing was really above good either. This is essentially a one-match show, and is the only real reason to get this.
