ROH Glory By Honor X Review

The American Wolf faces The Generic Luchador!

ROH Glory By Honor X
Chicago Ridge, Illinois 11/19/11

Pre-Show

Andy "Right Leg" Ridge vs. Mike Sydal: eh....DUD

Ridge won, but the main reason to see this was that Kevin Steen was sitting in the front row. He sarcastically cheers the two young guys until Jim Cornette, Cary Silkin & Todd Sinclair go to Steen and tell him to leave. I gave the match itself a DUD because the camera missed a lot of it due to the Steen thing...

After the match, Cornette says Steen can stay (since he has a ticket) but he is to stay on the fan side of the guardrail and will be thrown out if he tries anything funny.

Main Show

1.) Four Corner Survival – “The Prodigy” Mike Bennett vs. Adam Cole vs. Michael Elgin vs. Grizzly Redwood: **3/4

A fairly solid opener with lots of good action. Elgin wins his third multi-man match in the span of 24 hours.

2.) Singles Action – Jimmy Jacobs (with Steve Corino) vs. Tommaso Ciampa (with The Embassy): *3/4

Corino, Jacobs & Steen exchange words before the match. It goes for about six minutes before Steen throws water at Jacobs, antagonizing Corino and sending a swarm of officials down to break it up. Steen and the match are thrown out....

....but The Embassy isn't done! They call out someone to face Ciampa. Harlem Bravado comes out with his brother to answer the call, and guess what happens?

3.) Tommaso Ciampa (with The Embassy) vs. Harlem Bravado (with Lancelot Bravado): DUD

SQUASH. about 19 or 20 seconds I think. In my view, if they were going to use the Bravados, they might as well have let Ciampa squash both of them...

4.) Special Challenge Match – Eddie Edwards vs. Kyle O’Reilly: ***1/2

These two have some animosity after No Escape & the night before in Dayton. This was also the start of the whole Dan Severn story where Davey was going to train with him but Edwards got to him first while Davey was in Japan (talk about that more in my Final Battle Review). The match itself was very good. A lot of great exchanges.

5.) Tag Team Challenge Match – Jay & Mark Briscoe vs. The Young Bucks: ***1/2

A very fun match between these two teams. An interesting dynamic since technically both teams were heels here.

6.) Proving Ground Match – ROH World TV Champion Jay Lethal vs. Roderick Strong (with Truth Martini): ***1/4

If Strong can beat Lethal or last the time-limit, he gets a future title shot. In a pretty solid match, Strong ends up lasting the time limit. Cornette says Strong has his shot, but the fans want to see a finish. He convinces Strong to go 5 more minutes, calling him a pussy. Jay Lethal eventually picks up the win. That last segment was.....just very odd...

7.) ROH World Tag Team Titles – Wrestling’s Greatest Tag Team (Shelton Benjamin & Charlie Haas) vs. The All Night Express: ***1/4

ANX got this shot by winning Ladder War III. It was a fairly solid match. WGTT seem to be getting less & less interesting but ANX kept this one alive

8.) ROH World Title – Davey Richards vs. El Generico: ****1/4

While they could have trimmed some time off of it, the match was still very good. Even though you knew El Generico wasn't going to win, he & Davey put on a great effort after their previous encounter in 2010.

After the match, Kevin Steen comes back and gets into it with Davey Richards as well as Steve Corino before getting dragged out again. Davey then cuts a promo on Kevin Steen and puts over El Generico.

Overall: 8.25/10

After thinking about it, I would give this the same rating as the show from the night before. While Survival of the Fittest 2011 had the match of the weekend, this show was a bit more consistent in terms of match quality. It is a breeze to go through as well...
