ROH Supercard of Honor VI Review

Ring of Honor comes back to Chicago Ridge for it's annual tradition!

ROH Supercard of Honor VI
Chicago Ridge, Illinois 5/21/11

1.) Homicide vs. Michael Elgin: **1/2

A decent opener. Nothing really special, but solid.

2.) Adam Cole & Kyle O’Reilly vs. The Bravado Brothers: ***1/2

These two teams have had several previous encounters that were pretty good and this one proved to be no different. Very good stuff in this one. Entertaining.

Steve Corino comes out for his third encounter with Mike Bennett. He cuts another Redemption promo and talks about his sponsor. Mike Bennett comes out and questions whether Corino even has a sponsor until Jimmy Jacobs comes through the crowd, making his return to ROH and revealing himself to be Corino's Sponsor. Jacobs said he has cleaned up his life and his final goal on this path to redemption is to return to ROH. Security comes out to escort Jacobs out of the building before Corino's match with Bennett.

3.) One Final Time – Steve Corino vs. “The Prodigy” Mike Bennett: **1/4

This one was just ok. Their previous encounters were a little better, but I think the Jacobs return overshadowed this one. Come to think of it, the match in Canada was probably their best.

4.) Chris Hero vs. El Generico: ***

Before the match, El Generico gives Hero a Thor Hammer before the match, insinuating that he looks like The God of Thunder. It was a decent match, though all the craziness with the finish & restarting of the match hurt it. Definitely expected it to be better.

5.) Special Challenge Match – Davey Richards vs. Charlie Haas: ***3/4

Wrestling's Greatest Tag Team are split into singles matches tonight, and this is the first of those. This one was actually pretty good. They gave it their all and put on a lot of back & forth action.

6.) Grudge Match – Claudio Castagnoli vs. Shelton Benjamin: ***1/4

This was a decent match, but it definitely felt a lot longer than it actually was. A decent encounter, but that's about it.

Afterwords, the Kings & WGTT get into a heated exchange of words and needed to be pulled apart.

7.) Non-Title Match – Christopher Daniels vs. Colt Cabana: ***

Not sure why they had two non-title matches in a row. Truth Martini was ejected from ringside by Todd Sinclair early on. A good match and a step up from their match in Dearborn. Cabana is able to get his win back. Once again the win came after Steve Corino prevented Michael Elgin interference.

Afterwords, Corino chases off Truth Martini, but Cabana is disgusted at the fact that Corino helped him and walks out on him.

8.) Chicago Street Fight – The All Night Express vs. Jay & Mark Briscoe: ****1/4

This was a very fun street fight. Lots of great action and ANX looked very good.

9.) ROH World Title – Eddie Edwards vs. Roderick Strong: ****1/2

Strong is cashing in his rematch here. Another very good match between these two. Edwards has been great since becoming the champion, with this being his third defense (all of which were excellent).

After the match, The House of Truth attacks but Davey is able to run them off. Edwards gets on the mic and says he needs to face Davey to prove to the world that he is the best. He threatens to quit, but Davey agrees to the match, adding that Edwards should be careful what he wishes for...

Overall: 8.5/10

A great show from Ring of Honor. While it lacked the outside talent that were a staple of past Supercard of Honor's, this proved that this show can still be great with just the core roster. Nothing on here was overly terrible, and their was a lot of good to great stuff.

  1. The last match was what made this a really good card. It was just one of those matches that sticks in your mind.
