ROH Tag Team Turmoil 2011 Review

Tag Team Wrestling is front & center as ROH returns to Richmond!

ROH Tag Team Turmoil
Richmond, Virginia 7/8/11

Jim Cornette (oh boy...) opens the show by informing the fans that Chris Hero had some travel issues (weather related) and won't be in Richmond tonight (boo....). He invites new ROH World Champion Davey Richards to come out, and Richards cuts a promo about himself and The Wolves. He asks Eddie Edwards to come out but The House of Truth (Truth Martini & Roderick Strong) come out instead. He makes fun of Davey, and eventually Michael Elgin comes out for a HOT beatdown but Eddie Edwards comes out to even the odds. The HOT retreats to save themselves for the main event while the Wolves claim that the Hunt is On!

1.) ROH Contender’s Tag Team Lottery Tournament Match #1 – Adam Cole & Kyle O’Reilly vs. Caprice Coleman & Cedric Alexander: ***

So this is sort of mini-tournament with the winner getting some cash & a future title shot. Coleman & Alexander have made a few ROH appearances and this is their first time teaming in ROH (the start of a partnership still going today). A pretty solid opener.

2.) ROH Contender’s Tag Team Lottery Tournament Match #2 – Jay & Mark Briscoe vs. The Bravado Brothers: **3/4

This wasn't as good as the opener but still pretty decent....and short. Wrestling's Greatest Tag Team interferes and costs The Briscoes the match.

3.) Special Challenge Match – Kenny King vs. “The Prodigy” Mike Bennett: **1/2

This was a decent match. Nothing overly good, just an ok match.

Rhett Titus comes out and informs Todd Sinclair of Bennett's cheating, and he reveres the decision. After the match, Bennett goes after King's partner Rhett Titus. Jim Cornette comes out and says that if Bennett is looking to fight someone and Chris Hero isn't there, he can face Rhett Titus instead later tonight!

4.) ROH World Tag Team Titles – Shelton Benjamin & Charlie Haas vs. El Generico & Colt Cabana: **3/4

Colt Cabana was funny as usual, but I expected this to be a little better. WGTT looked decent but not overly good.

5.) ROH Contender’s Tag Team Lottery Tournament Finals – Adam Cole & Kyle O’Reilly vs. The Bravado Brothers: ***1/4

The Bravados got here after WGTT interfered in their match with The Briscoes. Not their best encounter, but still a pretty good match. O'Reilly & Cole get the win, the cash prize ($5000) and a future World Tag Team Title Shot.

6.) Rhett Titus vs. “The Prodigy” Mike Bennett: **1/2

After the events of earlier tonight, Bennett is replacing Hero as the opponent of Rhett Titus. A decent match. About as good Bennett had earlier with Kenny King. King prevents Bennett from cheating, which allows Titus to pick up the win.

7.) The American Wolves vs. Roderick Strong & Michael Elgin: ****

This was a very good tag team encounter. Both teams looked really good as units and individually as well. It was a little long (about 30 Minutes) but still good.

Overall: 7.25/10

You know I was going into this thinking it'd be a lot worse, but it actually turned out to be pretty solid. The main event was Match of the Night, and the there really wasn't a bad match, just a bunch of decent to good matches.
